Solitaire du Figaro Northern Spain Brest to La Coruna
The competitors in the third leg La Solitaire Afflelou Le Figaro had to contend with the Raz de Sein between Brest and La Coruna in Northern Spain.
A dangerous passage to navigate because the tidal sea currents can be up to six knots and the sea can rise quickly between the Isle of Sein and Pointe du Raz, Finistere, Bretagne, France.
Gildas Morvan (Cercle Vert) got through Raz de Sein with the tide when seas were flat and a gentle breeze blew.
Michel Desjoyeau who had been in the lead slowed in a Raz de Sein counter current and was caught up from behind by the leading boats.
Robert Nagy (Velia) struggled at the Raz de Sein because the tide turned and he went from 50 metres behind the leaders to a mile behind.
