Chris Steele wins Optimist World Championships in Sardinia
New Zealander Chris Steele from the Wakatere Boating Club in Auckland won the Optimist world championships in Sardinia with a score of 62. Chris Steele was in the top 3 for six of the thirteen races with two races discounted.
The silver medallist was Benjamin Grez of Chile with a score of 68 while New Zealander Alexandra Maloney from the Murrays Bay Sailing Club won bronze with a score of 91 and was the top female in the 13-races.
The next female was Lara Vadlau of Austria in 10th position on 135 points.
Just ahead of her in 9th position was New Zealand National champion Logan Dunning-Beck of Wakatere Boating Club in Auckland on 132 points.
The New Zealand team took the gold medal in their greatest success at this level.
