Alister Richardson to defend Cowes Week Title in Extreme 40's
An August 3rd Cowes Week pre-regatta pitted twenty-five of last year’s class winners in a champion of champions shoot-out.
The 2006 champions sailed in Laser SB3s and in a fine effort the extreme 40 helmsman Alister Richardson relegated the Laser SB3 champion Russell Peters into third place. Alister Richardson will have a Volkswagen Touareg champion of champion’s prize to drive home.
The Extreme 40s catamarans also began the UK leg of a Europe-wide Championship for the class. Double Olympic gold medallist Shirley Robertson is crewing for the class after her old team of Sarah Ayton and Sarah Webb chose Pippa Wilson to form a new team that won the Yngling class in the 2007 World sailing championships in Portugal and qualified for the Qingtao pre-Olympic regatta in the middle of the month.
